Networking for Private School Admissions

by NYC Private Schools on November 7, 2009

One of the best relationships that parents of aspiring NYC Private School students can ask for is that of another private school parent. Networking is a key element to private school admission in NYC because it gives you the ability to find information about a school that isn’t readily available from the website or brochure; the kind of information that is only known by the parents and students who have walked the halls themselves.

Networking is such an important part of private school admissions that one of the first groups formed was created in NYC for the purpose of connecting families with private schools and other private school families.
The Parents League of New York, formed in 1913, has brought these families and schools together for almost a century.

The Parents League of New York is a not-for-profit membership organization of Independent Schools and families. The Parents League is affiliated with 300 independent schools, including New York City preschools, K-12 day schools and boarding schools.
The Parents League is an association of parents and independent schools. The League was established by a group of parents in 1913 and was joined in 1914 by twelve New York City member schools and sixteen Associate Member Schools.

There are some very well known and prestigious schools on the original member list of the Parents League.

Original New York City Member Schools:
The Allen Stevenson School
Berkeley School
The Brearley School
The Browning School
The Chapin School
Charlton School
Cutler School

St. Agatha’s School
St. Bernard’s School
The Spence School
