The Central Queens community can be proud that it has an organization like the Central Queens Y serving it with educational and community services every day. The Central Queens Y is a 501(c)3 organization serving a diverse community of more than 10,000 people in the Central Queens area.
One of the ways the Y serves the surrounding community is by providing a preschool and day care services.
The early childhood program consists of parenting classes and a parenting center as well as preschool and nursery school. Services are offered to parents of newborns and children up to age 5. The preschool and nursery school teach music, gardening, and arts and crafts to young children on a daily basis. These classes are integrated into a normal curriculum for preschool children, taught by degreed and professional educators.
The preschool program for 3 to 5 year olds seeks to build self-confidence and social skills while challenging them intellectually and appealing to their natural curiosity.
Three year olds have a full-day class period from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. five days a week. There is also a half-day program from 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. three days a week. The enrichment program is available 8:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. five days a week.
Four year olds meet 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. five days a week. A Universal Pre-K is open during the same times. There is also a UPK for NYC residents open for 2-1/2 hours each day for five days a week. This is a free program. There is an extended day program available as well.
