East Midwood Hebrew Day School is located in Brooklyn, NYC and serves children in nursery school through eighth grade. According to the school’s mission statement, there are two primary goals:
- Instill a knowledge of Jewish religious and cultural heritage.
- To impart to students a practical understanding of the rapid changes occurring in the world around them.
At the center of the studies at East Midwood Hebrew Day School is the Judaic curriculum. The curriculum revolves around the Jewish calendar year. Students study the holidays each year and every day begins with prayer. Older students help in the reading of the Torah on Monday and Thursday. Students also receive a daily dose of Hebrew language instruction.
In grades 1 through 5, half of the day is taken up by English language academic instruction. Classes are small. Music, Drama, Art, Computer, and Gym classes are also incorporated.
Grades 6 through 8 include a rigorous schedule of academic study including math, science, English, social studies, and Hebrew.
East Midwood Hebrew Day School has been in operation since 1956. The first graduating class walked across the stage in 1962. Since then, students have gone on to the finest high schools, colleges, and universities.
East Midwood Hebrew Day School is a member of The Solomon Schechter Day School Association.
