The oldest Islamic school in North America is located in Queens, New York. Al-Iman School serves pre-K through 12th grade and teaches subjects mandated by the board of education. Students get a well-rounded curriculum designed to develop their minds as well as their moral character.
Established in 1990 on the orders of Ayatollah al-Khoei, the mission of Al Iman is to provide an education to students that reflect the values of The Qur’an, the Sunnah of The Prophet SAWW and the Aimmah AS.
Every day Monday through Thursday students join in holy prayers at the appointed times. Students must also fast during Ramadhan and the school serves no food. Al-Iman also institutes a strict dress code that encourages modesty and respect for both genders.
The school features fine Islamic architecture, including a dome and minaret, blended with modern designs. It is well equipped with state-of-the-art equipment in its science labs, computer rooms, library, assembly hall, gymnasium (to come) and other school halls. Students are given an opportunity to excel in all disciplines as well as sports, science and mathematics.
Al-Iman is accessible from all NYC boroughs. Muslims in New York who want a strong academic and Islamic education for their children will be proud to send their children to this historic private school.
