East Village Tots, located in New York City on East 10th Street, is a bilingual daycare for children ages 2 through 4. The school is an independent non-profit educational facility near Tompkins Square Park. The school is formerly known as Tenth Street Tots.
Children can attend classes three to five days a week. The center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
Guiding the school’s philosophy is a commitment to providing a nurturing environment that is child-centered and fun. Staff work hard to foster empathy and cooperation as well as the ability to resolve conflicts and boost self-confidence through age-appropriate instruction. Children explore themselves and their world through art, sensory experiences, role play and drama, movement, and singing songs. Parents are encouraged to play an active role in the development and education of their young children.
East Village Tots is headed by administrator and head teacher Danyce Alonzo, who holds a master’s degree in education. She also has more than 10 years experience in teaching children ages 2 through 5.
One of the hallmarks of East Village Tots and Danyce Alonzo’s approach to early childhood education is the amalgamation of many schools of thought including Bank Street, Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio Emilia. East Village Tots is a place where toddlers can learn to play, have fun, and be nurtured into young minds that want to learn.
