Grace Church To Add A High School

by NYC Private Schools on August 17, 2011

The NYC private school expansion continues. Which is all well and good since by 2020, education as we know it will likely be a thing of the past.

NYC Private Schools Blog recently highlighted the addition of The Goddard School and Avenues to the New York private schools landscape. Now we can celebrate the addition of another school – a high school – in New York City.

We wrote a focus on Grace Church School for K-8 in July this year. But there will soon be a Grace Church High School opening in Fall 2012.

What’s exciting about the new Grace Church campus is that school administrators seem to be saying that all bets are off. On curriculum. On school amenities. On school administration.

One thing that was brought out in the Wall Street Journal article linked to above is the fact that Grace Church’s new school hasn’t garnered as much public attention as Avenues, which has been swamped with applications. But one thing that Grace Church has going for it that Avenues doesn’t have is a feeder school. Its lower grade school can act as a conduit that sends students higher up the Grace Church ladder as many parents do not want to have to search for a new school when their child graduates. Most parents, on the other hand, realize that is part of the game.

Grace Church is breaking new ground and it will be exciting to see how it fares with other new private schools springing up this year and next. It does, after all, have a stellar reputation to lean on.
