Focus On Hands On World

by NYC Private Schools on June 1, 2012

Hands On World, located in Brooklyn, is a unique private school. It is an international language and arts school that caters to preschool-age children.

Located in the Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn, Hands On World was started in 2001 by a teacher who learned multiple languages as a child. She saw a need for a preschool that taught languages and that’s how she was inspired to get Hands On World off the ground.

The preschool is a language immersion program that offers French, Italian, and Spanish for preschool children. Language is learned through a creative process that involves the integration of art and language. For school-aged children there are after-school language classes in French, Italian, and Spanish. And the school offers adult ESL classes as well as adult language classes for people wanting to learn French, Spanish, and Italian.

Other programs include one-on-one art classes for adults and children and a summer arts program for 2 to 10 year olds.

Young children are capable of picking up on languages quickly. The ages of 2, 3, 4, and 5 are ideal ages for teaching children languages. And by learning multiple languages at such an early age they will be better equipped to deal with an ever-changing world that is growing more global and where multi-lingual people will have more opportunities available to them. Children who learn multiple languages also are better able to understand their native language better and interact cross-culturally.

Hands On World offers an early drop off and late pick up schedule for parents who cannot be at the school when the day begins and when the school period ends.
