Focus On The Language Workshop For Children

by NYC Private Schools on June 23, 2012

You would expect a private school named The Language Workshop For Children to be a place where children can go to learn foreign languages. Well, that’s exactly what this is.

The Language Workshop was started in 1973 for the purpose of teaching children foreign languages. The language programs offered at the center include French, Italian, Spanish, and Chinese.

More than just a language immersion program, The Language Workshop for Children works with children from the infant stage into elementary school. Young children listen to music in the language they are studying, sing vocabulary-building songs, learn from visual aids, play action games, take lessons from teachers who are native speakers of the language they are learning, and engage in a language immersion experience in order to become fluent in the languages.

The curriculum is based on a teaching technique of the founder François Thibaut. His Thibaut Technique is a whole language approach to learning that utilizes the whole brain. As a result of this approach, children learn to speak their languages more fluently and are capable of thinking in those languages.

The Language Workshop For Children offers language immersion preschool, after school programs, school break programs, toddler classes, baby education, and summer day camp.

The main New York City campus is located on the East Side of Manhattan.

Language for Tots is open to children ages 6 months to 3 years. The family preschool program is open to children ages 22 months to 3 years. Languages for Children is open to children 3 to 9 years old. Regular preschool opens up to children 2 years 10 months and admits children up to age 4. Summer camp enrichment classes are open to 3 to 9 year olds. Children ages 7 through 12 can take private lessons. Learn more about each of these programs at Language Workshop For Children’s website.
