Focus On The Learning Tree

by NYC Private Schools on June 25, 2012

The Learning Tree is a preschool that also offers programs for school age children in Flushing, Queens. It has had its doors open since 1972 and offers a nursery school, Universal Pre-K, an after school program, and a summer camp.

As a preschool the primary focus of The Learning Tree is to teach young children to respect each other and to prepare them for elementary school. Within the Queens community, The Learning Tree is situated more specifically in Middle Village and serves the following surrounding neighborhoods:

  • Elmhurst
  • Maspeth
  • Forest Hills
  • Rego Park
  • Ridgewood
  • Glendale

Teachers at The Learning Tree are trained in early childhood and elementary education. They provide services in a culturally diverse environment where children are challenged intellectually and physically.

The curriculum for 2 year olds focuses on developing good reading habits and comprehension skills. Children learn to listen and speak and write legibly. They are also taught letter and number recognition and to count to 10. Three year olds take their reading, writing, and number comprehension a little step further according to each student’s needs. The Pre-K curriculum focuses on social and emotional development. Students demonstrate a self-awareness and self-confidence. They also learn to take initiative, the importance of cooperation, and explore their natural curiosities. Children are also allowed to express themselves creatively and get a healthy dose of physical exercise.

The Learning Tree has a lot to offer preschool children and works hard to get them ready for the next stage of their development.
