Focus On Mazel Day School

by NYC Private Schools on July 9, 2012

Mazel Day School is a tri-lingual day school in Brooklyn serving Jewish children from the ages of two onward. At the preschool level the focus is on language and is more play-based than academic. While the school bases its teachings on Traditional Orthodox Judaism, all Jewish children are welcome.

Founded in 2002 by Russian-Jewish immigrants who couldn’t find an appropriate school environment for their children, Mazel Day School has grown each year to accommodate the increasing age of the children. What started as simply a preschool has now become both an elementary and a middle school. The classes are taught in English, Russian and Hebrew with an emphasis of making the children fluent and comfortable in each language.

At the preschool level, Mazel Day School stresses socialization, play and the need to instill a lifelong love of learning. Field trips are taken to local areas of interest and basic science, reading and math skills are taught. Children participate in a wide range of activities including:

  • Baking
  • Field trips
  • Gym
  • Music and dance classes
  • Reading and story-telling
  • Group and individual play (both indoors and outdoors)

The preschool operates both a school year as well as a summer program with classes starting at 9am and lasting until 4pm for full day students and 9am until 1pm for half-day students. There is an early drop off option allowing for children to be dropped off at 8am. There is also an after care program allowing the children to remain at the school until 6pm. For full day students attending from 9am until 3pm there is also a transportation option where the school will provide transportation.
