My Little Village is a 10 month preschool located in the East Village in Manhattan. In addition to the September through June school year, there is also a summer program that is open for 4 weeks in July and 3 weeks in August.
Accepting children ages 2 to 5, My Little Village is focused more on play than academics. That said, there are still ample opportunities for learning. Teaching takes place in a hands-on fashion and without the formalities of some preschools. The children are allowed lots of free time for play that is both individual as well as in groups. There are also field trips, outdoor play and craft activities. Music and dance is also taught along with basic social skills such as sharing and positive peer interaction. Because the children interact with those both older and younger than they are, they learn to help one another and play together. This is especially good for children that have no siblings.
The daily schedule of My Little Village allows for children to be dropped off at 8:30 in the morning even though the school day doesn’t start until 9am. Parents are welcome to stay with their children until 9am. This gives younger children a chance to acclimate to the environment before the parents leave. Lunch and snacks are served at the school. The school day ends at 3pm but there is an after school program that allows for pickup at 6pm.
