The Beekman School, located on the East side of Manhattan, believes that the best match between student and school shouldn’t depend on testing and scores and admissions dates, but on the profiles and personalities and needs of the student in concert with the school.
The Beekman School is a NYC Private School that offers a college preparatory education in a coeducational setting for students in 9th through 12th grade. The school provides a unique educational opportunity that is private, highly individualized and very personal.
A Beekman education offers students the flexibility and responsibility of being in charge of their educational experience with customizable and flexible scheduling, rolling admission and very small class sizes in addition to private instruction and customizable courses.
The Beekman School History
An essential component of Mr. Matthew’s vision was the need for an intimate environment, where a quality education can be delivered in a highly-focused manner. Our unique townhouse setting provides this key component. It assures small class sizes, allows greater student-teacher interaction, and supports a collegial atmosphere that produces extraordinary results.
The school itself is located in a townhouse that has been converted school facility while maintaining the original family-like warm atmosphere. The school includes eight classrooms with SMART board technology, a small library, study hall, a state-of-the-art laboratory for biology, chemistry, and physics, computer lab and garden.
Admissions for The Beekman School
• The headmaster meets with each prospective student and his or her parents in an intensive interview to assess whether the school would be a good match for the student. Previous school transcripts and records of testing are reviewed to determine the proper class placement, but they are never solely used to determine a course of study. Prospective students are also welcome to observe for a half or full day so that they can gain a clearer understanding of the style of the school.
• Rolling Admissions
• It is advisable that interviews take place during the early spring of the year prior to entry. Students who have chosen a school or program that does not seem to be a good match are encouraged to contact The Beekman School at any time to arrange an interview. The rolling admissions policy exists precisely for this purpose.
• If the traditional Beekman School program is filled, students can begin their day in the afternoon and take their required courses through The Tutoring School, which uses the same syllabi and textbooks at the The Beekman School.
The Beekman School offers a wonderful educational opportunity for older students and families that find an customized and personal learning environment to be a match for their learning style and educational needs.
