NYC Private School Focus on International School of Brooklyn

by NYC Private Schools on December 18, 2009

The International School of Brooklyn has been in the news as an innovative and unique offering in the NYC Private School environment. The ISB currently offers school-day programming for children from Nursery to Third Grade in a Spanish or French language immersion environment. The 4th grade will be added to the school next year, and there are extensive plans to grow with the students through Twelfth Grade and offer the IB diploma program.

Currently using the Primary Years Programme from the International Baccalaureate Organization, the curriculum of the International School of Brooklyn focuses on the development of the whole child, which includes academic, social, physical, emotional and cultural needs and education.

The Facts on The International School of Brooklyn

  • An independent, non-sectarian, not-for-profit educational institution.
  • A co-educational day school for children in Pre-K through 3rd grade.
  • New York’s only French & Spanish language immersion school following the International Baccalaureate curriculum

Students at ISB are taught in a nurturing and challenging environment in order to become bilingual, critical thinkers, and global citizens. The accreditation process for the International School of Brooklyn is well underway.

Principal Rebecca Skinner recently won the Blackboard Awards NYC Private School Principal of the Year award.

Accreditation

ISB expects to be accredited by IB in 2010. Throughout the accreditation process, ISB staff and administration will work closely with IB consultants to train staff and successfully implement the PYP in the ISB Preschool and Elementary school on a school-wide basis.
ISB received its operational charter from the New York State Department of Education in 2004 and is currently a provisional member of the New York State Association of Independent Schools. ISB is also pursuing accreditation with the French and Spanish Ministries of Education.
