History of The Muslim Center Elementary School
In May 1975, a few brothers gathered together to establish a weekly Islamic School and a mosque for the growing Muslim Community in this area.
With a modest apartment at 41 st Avenue, Flushing, the Muslim Center came into existence. The Muslim Organization of North America appointed one brother as the first administrator of the Center and three other brothers as Advisors. The first general meeting was held on the 1st Sunday of November 1975.
The Center has gradually evolved into a full-fledged Community Center and a democratically operated, non-profit Islamic and educational institution. It has tax exempt status with the IRS, NYS, and NYC. It is a member of the Council of Masajid and of the Majlis-Ash-Shura, New York.
The Muslim school is a member of the Islamic School League of America (ISLA) and has a Student to teacher ratio of 11:1. There are 7 hours of classroom time and a 180 day school year calendar.
The school website covers more in depth information on the Muslim Center Elementary School and the many programs offered to students as well as Sunday classes.
