PlayTogether NYC Preschool is a Manhattan-based preschool for children ages 2 through 4. This Upper West Side school is open from 9am until 1pm with an option to stay until 2:30. There is an open admission policy so children may be added at any time during the year. Parents may enroll their children for 2 to 5 days per week.
The curriculum of PlayTogether is primarily play-based but with academic goals kept in mind. Science is taught in a hands on manner and used to help develop critical thinking skills. Language skills are developed as is pre-writing and pre-reading, through songs, group play and art projects. Letter recognition is taught through the use of the Itchy’s Alphabet learning program that uses sounds and pictures to help children learn letters. There is also time allotted for dramatic playing by dressing up and the development of positive social skills.The music program includes:
- Musical games and songs
- Learning to recognize notes and read music
- Dance – Moving to rhythm
- Developing rhythm
- Singing
- Playing with percussion instruments
- How to play together
In addition to the indoor activities, PlayTogether NYC Preschool also has daily outdoor activity time, weather permitting. The children go on nature or neighborhood walks and learn to develop their gross motor skills by running and playing on the playground. In the event of bad weather, there is ample room in the school’s 1,200 square foot facility for the children to run and play there as well.
The school integrates English as a Second language students and accepts special needs children on a case by case basis.
