We have talked about the kinds of questions every parent should be considering when choosing the right private school to send their child to:
“What kind of schools are they really? What is their philosophy and mission? What kind of student and young adult are they looking to mold in my child?”
There are many ways to research a school; you want to learn about their philosophy and what kind of programs they focus on. While the most obvious first choices for many parents are the 1st Tier schools, the oldest and most prestigious, the ones with a long track record of Ivy league alumni, the truth is that there are many wonderful private schools that may be the best fit for your child. Ignoring all but the ones with the oldest reputation would be a disservice to the quality of your child’s future education.
The best way to find out what kind of school is best for your child is to research the available schools, talk to other parents and alumni, and tour, tour, tour.
Many wonderful schools welcome interested families to schedule and attend an open house or tour prior to submitting applications. This is a wonderful way to see the school and it’s faculty without writing a check for an application that you may very well not want to fill out afterwards. Many schools will include printed materials about the school along with a requested application so that you can consider the information and then decide how to proceed.
Our next post will display some of the different school mottos and philosophies to highlight school styles, similarities and differences.
