Many parents find themselves faced with location difficulties when helping their child choose a private school in NYC. If the preferred school is across the city and both parents work, schedules need to be adjusted to get the child to school on time and still be able to get to work. Depending on the school and the availability of transportation, and obviously the ability and safety of the child if taking transportation there alone, sometimes there is just no way that the favorite school can stay in the running.

In order to keep you from having to make that difficult decision after your child has tested and applied to a school, you may want to be proactive and research schools and locations before your child physically applies. For that matter, you should question whether or not your child can get there in a reasonable amount of time before you attend open houses and waste your valuable time.

Here is the last of the general school locations in NY, and a brief description of what the area has to offer:

Manhattan West Side:

The West Side schools’ application pools are highly competitive. Many of these schools are very well known with solid ‘Ivy’ reputations and attract a diverse culture of children. You shouldn’t count out some of the lesser known but still very academic strong schools that are in the West Side. West Sdie schools, much like the East Side, offer a rich diversity of philosophical ideals, both same-sex and co-ed, as well as church affiliated and even international programs.
