Private School Focus on Dillon Child Study Center

by NYC Private Schools on September 1, 2009

The Dillon Child Study Center, a private early learning center in Brooklyn, NY, is located on the St. Joseph’s College campus. The location of this preschool and kindergarten program has enabled many parents to jokingly say that their 4 year old goes to college already. The Dillon Child Center, founded in 1934, is historically one of the first college preschools on the East coast.

Dillon

Licensed by the New York City Department of Health and registered with the New York State Department of Education, Dillon serves over one hundred children, with five classes for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten children and an inclusive class of both typically and atypically developing children. In a child-centered atmosphere, children learn through play and develop confidence, competence and dispositions for future learning. All teachers have obtained or are working toward Early Childhood certification and their Master’s degrees.

The Facts on The Dillon Child Study Center:

With an enrollment of around 100 students, this small school program has an intimate learning environment. The student to Teacher ratio is 7:1. The Dillon school has a calendar of 180 school days consisting of 6 hours of class time per day.

Enrollment in Dillon

Families who are interested in Dillon as an educational choice for their child should plan on attending an Open House the year prior to their child’s desired attendance.

For those interested in the 2010 fall program, the open house dates are:
9/30,10/2, 10/7, 10/9, 10/14, 10/16, 10/23, 10/28, 10/30, 11/4, 11/6

Open houses are held at 239 Vanderbilt Avenue. Brooklyn, NY.

Families should register for the open house after Labor Day, as Dillon will not take names for registration before then. Open Houses are held on a first-come, first-served basis and generally only until they have received approximately 80 applications for 3-year-olds.

Once a family has attended Open House and filed an application, it will receive an invitation to bring the child in for a play date/visit in January

The director and at least one other Dillon Center staff member will circulate throughout the room, visiting with each parent and child. The domains of development that we will consider are motor, social and cognitive/language.
Each year, we have a limited number of spots in our 4-year-old and kindergarten programs for children who have not previously attended the Dillon Center. Families of these children must understand that we give priority to our returning families

The Dillon Child Study Center is a wonderful choice for an early Private School Education in NY.
