Located on a campus including 7 buildings in Brooklyn, St. Ann’s is a NYC Private School with a tradition of fostering talented minds and turning out gifted graduates.

The mission of St. Ann’s is both personal in its intent and professional in its demands, letting you know right away that this school is somewhat different then you may at first suspect.
Saint Ann’s School is not unusual in wanting to prepare children creatively and efficiently in the academic disciplines and the arts, and surely not unique in wanting students who demonstrate amply the necessary aptitude and motivation. What is out of the ordinary, we think, is our habit of giving students freedom to achieve, to value learning more than propriety, to trust the unadorned pleasures of learning, unassisted by point scores, prizes, rankings, and punishments.
We admit the talented. Those we admit, we joyfully label as talented. Behind all we do at Saint Ann’s is the theory that not only accelerated but qualitatively different methods of teaching must be developed and applied for the gifted.
The Facts on St. Ann’s:
St. Ann’s has a student body of over 1,000 students and one of the lowest student teacher ratios in New York at about 6:1. It has an average of 8 hours of classroom time a day and the current school calendar calls for a 165 day school year vs. the 180 in public schools. Tuition for the 2008–09 school year ran from $20,000 for Pre-K up to $27,000 for High School level.
St. Ann’s lists its criteria for admissions as the following:
Saint Ann’s seeks students who show evidence of the intellectual motivation and aptitude that will enable them to handle both freedom and rigorous academic requirements. Admission is granted on the basis of personal interviews and results of tests by the school. New students are admitted to the Preschool through Grade 10 as vacancies permit, and, on occasion, exceptions may be made for Grade 11. Individual consideration is the essence of both our admission and our educational processes.
An independent school It must be understood that admission is not predicated on IQ or ISEE scores or grades at other schools per se. Rather, it is based on a holistic assessment of the candidate and his or her background, including cultural concerns, openness of parents to music, theater, literature, etc..
It is important to note that for the upcoming school year, St. Ann’s is launching an online application form
We will be launching an online application for the 2010-2011 admissions year, which should be up and running by late August. We will not be accepting any applications before then. Thanks for your interest in Saint Ann’s and please feel free to call the Admissions Office at 718-522-1660 x313 with any questions.
For those interested in Financial Aid, the school is currently providing scholarship to fifteen percent of its students. Funds for this purpose are raised through school events, foundation support, the Annual Fund, and miscellaneous income sources
St. Ann’s is a beautiful addition to the academic environment of NYC Private Schools.
