Bnos Leah Nursery School is a play-based Jewish nursery school that accepts girls ages 3 through 5. The nursery school is part of the larger Bnos Leah Prospect Park Yeshiva School that accepts girls from the ages 6 through high school graduation. The school follows the motto of “The Sweet Way” and instills a love of the Torah right from the start. Class sizes are limited to foster a small student-teacher ratio and allow each child as much individual attention as possible.
At the preschool age, girls at Bnos Leah Nursery School learn mostly through play, along with songs and dance. For example, children use “Alpha Aerobics” (3 min dance and chants) to help learn their letters. Children are given ample time to run and play both indoors and out, and there is an organized schedule that is focused on the interests of the children. Children regularly take part in cooking, field trips and learning basic social skills, such as kindness and sharing.
Parents are strongly encouraged to be a part of the school. There have been father-daughter workshops and there is a monthly mother-daughter breakfast. Children also participate in activities with extended family members at the school; grandparents are encouraged to participate.
Bnos Leah Nursery School encourages children to develop at their own pace and children are frequently allowed free time in creative play that allows them to develop their own unique style. Music and singing are common as is storytelling, being reading and math skills are taught through play as opposed to actual academic lessons. Social interactions include children baking cupcakes to share with another class.
