Focus On Rainbow School for Child Development

by NYC Private Schools on August 6, 2012

Rainbow School for Child Development is primarily a play-based special education preschool that accepts children from age 2.7 years until the age of 5 who have been evaluated and deemed eligible for special education services. There is a low student-to-teacher ratio and each child receives the special education services that he or she needs in order to develop their full potential. The school operates on a year long schedule with a special summer program to break up the year. Parents are encouraged to participate as much as possible, however, the school understands that many parents are either working or in school and the programs are tailored to respect those issues. Transportation is provided for all children.

This preschool focuses on dealing with the particular issues that a child with developmental delays has to contend with and, as such, the programs for each child are individual to that child. There are group play periods, music, art and various age and developmentally appropriate activities along with individual work to help each child meet their fullest potential. The school is proud of the fact that by the time children leave the school fully half of them no longer require special education services. Focus is placed on living skills and the development of fine and gross motor skills.

The school offers bilingual instruction as well as work in reading and literacy, science and math skill development, computers, music and art. Children are engaged and learn valuable social skills including how to get along with peers and how to control and handle their emotions.
