Focus On Rivendell School

by NYC Private Schools on August 10, 2012

The Rivendell School is a Montessori-based preschool that accepts children from the age of 2 until they complete Kindergarten. Located in Brooklyn, Rivendell School has been open since 1977. Children must be 2 by the time school starts in September for them to be considered for that year. Siblings of prior students are given preference for admission. Rivendell School is open Monday through Friday from 8:45am until 3pm. Early arrival and late pick up are also possible. The length of the school day is based on the age of the children with Kindergarten classes running the full day.

As with most Montessori schools, Rivendell School uses hands-on activities to teach children. Children are exposed to music, art, science, math and reading through activities designed to enrich and develop. Focus is placed on developing interpersonal skills, self esteem and positive social skills. Children are encouraged to develop their interests and they are grouped in mixed-age groups based on the readiness level of the child for a particular activity. Arts and craft activities help to develop fine motor skills while gross motor skills are developed through vigorous running and jumping. Both indoor and outdoor play is available daily.

Parents are encouraged to participate fully in the Rivendell School. This includes being able to visit whenever they desire and acting as a volunteer for both classrooms and field trips. Parents are responsible for the transportation of their child to and from school.

For more information or to schedule a visit, see the website of the Rivendell School.
