Located in South Bronx is St. John Chrysostom School, a Catholic parish school rooted in and committed to the tradition of non-violence since 1914.

Serving pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, St. John Chrysostom is dedicated to the best academic program for students of the school and offer a challenging curriculum. Grades are based on a combination of comprehensive exams, homework, classwork, daily quizzes, unit tests, and special projects. And just as important as academics is character development.

The Character Development mark is based on the following criteria:

  • How well the student follows rules
  • Shows care in the use of personal property
  • Shows respect to teachers
  • Treats other students with respect
  • Exercises self-control
  • Listens attentively
  • And uses technology appropriately

Technology training includes instruction in Wall Street stock market investing, African American history, graphing, and other collaborative learning projects.

Students also have access to an after care program and a summer program. Students are also encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities. Students who do exceptionally well at St. John Chrysostom School may earn their place on the school’s honor roll.

St. John Chrysostom School is a part of the Roman Catholic church under the Archdiocese of New York. Students are taught the rudiments of the Christian religion and encouraged to lead moral lives.
