The Forest Hills Jewish Center School and Services

by NYC Private Schools on August 31, 2010

Nestled in a nice little area and set off Queens Blvd, The Forest Hills Jewish Center School and Services is located in the Forest Hills section of Queens, NY.  The FHJC Nursery School and Kindergarten is an award winning program that is the only Nursery to win awards from the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism for eight years in a row.  The programs are specialized for each child’s individuality and achievements in areas of social, physical, emotional, and cognitive growth, and at his or her own pace.

The Jewish component is woven into all aspects of the school. The celebration of Shabbat and holidays and the love of Israel are taught in a way children enjoy, through stories, songs, cooking, crafts, and puppets. The goal is for the children to feel the joy of being Jewish. Families are encouraged to participate in Shabbat services and holiday celebrations at the school. Nursery School children have the opportunity to attend their own “Kids Kongregation” on Shabbat morning with their parents.

About 78 students make up a preK and Kindergarten student body. The school also offers Nursery and Toddler Camps. The Youth Department offers a combination of fun, friendship, community service, and educational activities geared to different age groups. They offer trips, dances, conventions and Jewish holidays plus kinnusim, a summer encampment, USY-on-Wheels, the USY Pilgrimage to Israel, and much more.

Tseerim (3rd – 5th grades) meets Sundays from 12:30pm – 2:00pm.
Kadima (6th – 8th grades) meets Thursdays from 6:00pm – 7:30pm.
USY (9th – 12th grades) meets Thursdays from 7:30pm – 9:00pm.
