Since 1982, The School for Young Performers has been helping children in the performing arts, as well as children of celebrities, to be able to get quality education while balancing performing schedules. SYP is a private K-12 that helps kids who prefer a more flexible education with their careers in performing arts and athletics. Students are from all aspects of performing arts, including film, music, theatre, circus, etc. SYP provides a quality alternative to a traditional school environment in on-location settings.
SYP is committed to providing solutions to the educational challenges facing students whose lifestyles or careers are incompatible with traditional classrooms and methods. SYP was created with the belief that all students should receive a high quality education administered by caring and competent teachers. Families should not have to choose between allowing their children to pursue personal or professional aspirations and providing an opportunity for academic achievement. All students should have access to a course of study that will prepare them for the colleges of their choice. SYP was established in 1995 by Alan Simon, founder of On Location Education, the nation’s premier on-set education service for children in film, television, theatre, the recording industry, and athletics. He and his staff have over twenty-five years of experience educating young professionals including performers, recording artists, athletes, and models as well as students from families with non-traditional education needs.
SYP is known as a “school without walls” and will work with any production schedule, competition site or training facility to provide a high quality college preparatory education. Students experience one-on-one education with teachers highly trained by experienced educators and curriculum writers. Each program is tailored to each student’s own individual needs. The school is registered with the state of New York and offers state accredited high school diplomas. SYP alumni have been accepted to some of the world’s finest colleges, including but not limited to Yale, Harvard, NYU and Princeton.
