Welcome to Staten Island’s Oakdale Academy

by NYC Private Schools on August 14, 2010

Located in two buildings, Oakdale Academy can be found at 2734 Victory Blvd and 366 Oakdale Street on Staten Island, NY. Established in 1987, Oakdale Academy is the largest independently owned and operated school on Staten Island.  Oakdale Academy believes in giving children the highest level of academic enrichment while fostering individuality and creativity in each child.

The program cares for the child as a whole so that there I also emphasis placed on nurturing emotional growth, while sparking excitement and enthusiasm in learning endeavors. Children work in small groups based upon their abilities rather than arbitrary chronological grouping rules. This ensures each child being able to work at this own pace and reach his own potential through opportunities for critical thinking and problem solving. Small grouping by ability allows us to respond to individual needs.

The academy adheres to NAEYC’s Commitment to children. The philosophy of the school states the appreciation of childhood as a unique and valuable stage in life and utilizes their knowledge in child development on which to base the work programs. Close ties between child and family are embraced, thus the school feels that children are best understood in the context of family, culture and society. Relationships are based on mutual trust and respect and the school helps children see life and learning in a positive manner.

At Oakdale Academy we believe that each child is entitled to reach his or her full potential both as an academic learner as well as a well rounded individual. We carefully attend to the academic development while nurturing the emotional growth and self-esteem of the child.
