by NYC Private Schools on October 6, 2012

William O’Connor School is a Brooklyn-based preschool for children ages birth through 5 with developmental delays and disabilities. Parents are encouraged to participate in the life of the school through volunteer opportunities in their child’s class, assisting on field trips and helping with fundraising. Parents are also welcome to visit the school whenever they wish and will receive progress reports as well as newsletters from the school. William O’Connor School offers door-to-door bus service for all of their students.

Children at the William O’Connor School are treated as individuals and the curriculum is designed around their specific needs. The school evaluates each child in an ongoing process so that changes may be made to his or her individual plan when necessary. Children also have access to whatever therapeutic services they need. This includes speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and play therapy. Counseling services are available and there are therapy sessions designed to train parents to best assist their special needs child.

William O’Connor School is also a fun place for children. There is ample time and opportunity for activities such as arts and crafts, story telling and vigorous play. To assist in both physical therapy and the normal development of gross motor skills children have access to both an indoor and outdoor play area. Bilingual or monolingual classes are available as are integrated classes. Music and movement classes are also part of the curriculum.

For more information or to plan a visit, see the website of the William O’Connor School.
