Focus On William Woodward Jr. Nursery School

by NYC Private Schools on August 7, 2011

William Woodward Jr. Nursery School is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The official date is September 24.

Initially, the school was founded by a gift to serve the children of the staff of the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. Over time, its mission has expanded to include the children of employees of other nearby hospitals and medical centers as well as Rockefeller Center and the neighborhood community.

The school was founded to provide developmental opportunities for children in all areas of social, intellectual, physical, and emotional maturation.

The foundational philosophy of William Woodward Jr. Nursery School is that children are active learners. The faculty then provide the opportunity for children to do what is natural for them. The curriculum opens doors of learning both inside and outside of the classroom.

Curricular studies include social behavior, language, creative arts, music, cooking, science, mathematics, and muscle coordination. Children also spend time outdoors on the playground. William Woodward Jr. Nursery School helps every child on their path to self-discovery.

Faculty also give parents plenty of opportunities to get involved in the educational process. An active parents organization acts as a liaison to the school community and helps plan events for the school.
