Focus On Wortspiele

by NYC Private Schools on October 2, 2012

Wortspiele is a German language and Montessori preschool in Brooklyn that accepts children ages 2 through 4 into their bilingual program. Wortspiele, which means “word play” in English, is open Monday through Friday from 9am until 3pm. Parents are encouraged to participate in the life of the school and to expand on language skills and a love of learning when at home.

Wortspiele is a Montessori-based preschool and children learn through hands-on activities and play. Because it is a bilingual program, children learn German both through organized German skill activities as well as through the constant use of German by the staff and teachers. A love of Germany and German culture is instilled in the children through activities designed to teach them about Germany, including the traditions and holidays as well as the cultural significance. German holidays are celebrated along with German food and cooking.

Children also learn practical life skills while at Wortspiele. They are taught to respect themselves and others, to be tolerant, kind, helpful and honest. Basic life skills such as dressing and basic hygiene are taught as needed. To encourage healthy habits, the meals served at Wortspiele are balanced and nutritious. To encourage a habit of healthy exercise, outdoor play is available during good weather, and indoor play such as dance is available when the weather is inclement.

In addition to German language, children learn the basics of reading and writing in both German and English while they are at Wortspiele. There are also activities to lay the fundamentals of math and science. Field trips and art projects help round out the curriculum.

For additional information or to schedule a visit, see the website of Wortspiele.
