Gymnastics is a sport involving performance of exercises requiring physical strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, balance and grace. Artistic gymnastics is the best known and most popular of the gymnastics sports governed by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). Artistic Gymnastics, typically involves the women’s events of uneven parallel bars, balance beam, floor exercise, and vault. At the Horace Mann Private School in NYC, the Varsity Girls Gymnastics program is very serious business, with a stellar record of excellence. The Girls’ Varsity Gymnastics Team won the AAIS Championships for the first time in 1999. In 2000, the team placed second, but has since come back to regain their title and have had 9 consecutive times since then.
According to the school-run newspaper, The Record,
Varsity Gymnastics triumphed over its competition to secure the team’s ninth consecutive AAIS Championships on Saturday. The team finished its season with a 9-5 record.
In past years, the team vaulted and tumbled effortlessly to victory. This season, they stumbled through with rough performances. Long time rivals Chapin and Brearley dominated the season.
