Peter received his Master of Education and Master of Arts degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University specializing in Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts from Lehigh University majoring in Psychology.

For 20 years, Peter worked at a traditional summer camp in New Hampshire as a counselor, Group Leader, Head Counselor of Boys Camp and Program Director responsible for all camp programs and staff management. Prior to founding Corbin’s Crusaders, Peter was Head Counselor of Billdave After School Sports Club in New York City.

Since 1996, Peter has grown Corbin’s Crusaders Sports Club (CCSC) from private enrollment to now being integrated into many after school programs in New York City’s private schools. Current organizations include Aaron School, Allen Stevenson, Browning, Caedmon, Calhoun, Churchill, Claremont, Collegiate, Dalton, Gateway, Mandell, Nightingale-Bamford, and Sacred Heart. Thousands of children have attended the After School Program and the Summer Day Camp (located in Rockland County).

As parents and Co-Directors, Peter and his wife, Wendy, understand the importance of a positive self-image and individual development in every child’s life. Corbin’s Crusaders uses sports to enhance a child’s potential and encourages all children to develop into confident players regardless of their skill level. As CCSC continues to expand, it remains a family organization striving to help each child reach his or her potential on and off the playing field.

Using sports, positive feedback and cooperative learning games, children begin to show the characteristics of teamwork and sportsmanship. We use our Skills, Drills and Thrills Method to help each child and team advance to the next level. We breakdown a sport into a few fundamental skills and then practice them with fun and exciting drills. Each day, there is a thrilling game situation so players can experience their immediate improvement, which enhances confidence. We believe a strong “sense of self” benefits every child and significantly translates to life off the field.

Peter, as an expert in children’s development through athletics, has been a seminar speaker for the Parents League of New York and lecturer on camp staff development for the American Camping Association.

Academics play the most important role in a Private School education and there is no doubt that a high quality education is first and foremost what parents are looking for in a school for their children. It is also true that athletics plays a vital role in building a foundation of healthy minds and bodies in children.

There are a variety of different Athletic Associations in the NY Private School realm, and the New York State Association of Independent Schools Athletic Association is one of them. The NYSAIS Athletic Association is a sports league for Independent Schools in New York.

The mission of New York State interscholastic athletic programs is to foster the quest for excellence by creating an educational and competitive experience within an atmosphere of sportsmanship. Successful programs develop individual and team potential by promoting high standards of competence, character, civility, and citizenship

There are a relatively limited number of ways to foster team work in a purely academic institute, where individuals are measured often, well, individually. A quality sports program allows children to not only maintain a healthy lifestyle and be physically active, but also to learn a very simply life-lesson. You can accomplish great things by working together, as a team.

Here are some of the qualities by which the NYSAIS Athletic Program measures it’s success:

Educational Goals of a Quality Interscholastic Athletic Program
Competence:
A student athlete in a quality program is competent in terms of:
Skill Development
Knowledge of the game/Strategies
Fitness/Conditioning/Healthy behavior

Character:
A student athlete in a quality program demonstrates:
Responsibility
Accountability
Dedication
Trustworthiness/Fair play
Self Control

Civility:
A student athlete in a quality program demonstrates civility towards others showing:
Respect
Fairness
Caring

Citizenship:
A student athlete in a quality program demonstrates citizenship through actions showing evidence of:
Loyalty/Commitment
Teamwork
Role Modeling

Among the NYC Private Schools in the NYSAIS Athletic Association are Packer, Poly Prep, Horace Mann, Riverdale, Trinity, Friends, Dalton and more.
